Things Got Spooky

Here at the Stubbs shack, we decided to throw a Halloween party. The first of an annual series, I hope, based on the amount of money we spent on décor. Actually, Tyler took the planning of this party quite seriously, and over several weeks, we accumulated some seriously fun Halloween décor, and Tyler did a great job of pulling it all together.

So, here's a huge 'thank you' to everyone who made the 1st Annual Stubbs Halloween Party a raging success.

Mr. Jackson Scott. Rocking the pirate.

Miss Kennedy Rose.

Concocting some dangerous beverages.

Homebrew!

Duck Dynasty!

Spooky punch, done right.

Hope everyone has a seriously spooky Halloween!

7 Months

Jackson,
The days are not slowing down, but I can tell you one thing is for sure: we cherish every single moment we get to spend with you. You are such a fun, happy, loving baby. Most days I wish I could just pause time, and live in a moment for hours. This is exactly what I try to do on the weekends. I used to be adamant about making the most of our weekends, going here and there and doing this and that. Things have changed. The only thing I want now is to spend hours on the floor playing with you, helping you learn to sit and making you laugh (which can be a challenge, you stinker!).

In the last month, as usual, you’ve been making some big changes!

·         You’ve eaten apples, carrots, avocado, pumpkin, strawberries, bananas, and sweet potatoes. You love it all!

·         You have had some early wake up calls recently. Waking up at 4:30 hungry is not unusual… any chance you could get back to normal sleeping hours??

·         You’re working on sitting- you can manage for short amounts of time at the moment.

·         You pull yourself onto your hands and knees and rock. You want to move SO BAD.

·         You have your TWO BOTTOM TEETH! They both came in within 24 hours of each other, and you didn’t complain a bit.

·         You do the cutest thing ever. You are discovering the feeling of different fabrics on your little fingers. You like to scratch our backs or sides as we feed you. Please never stop.

·         You recognize us. It’s the best thing. When we walk in a room and you hear our voices you turn excitedly to see us.

While I will admit a part of me is sad to see you grow so quickly, a bigger part of me is so grateful you’re thriving, changing, and turning a little bit more into the person you will become every day. You’re growing just the way you were meant to, and we look forward to everything your future holds!

October

I love, love October. October means fall, more lazy days inside, cozy candles, and earlier evenings.

This year, it still feels like summer. I guess they call this an Indian summer - which I am trying to savor and enjoy (we all know by January I'll be writing about how much I hate the cold, dreary days), however I'm having a hard time with the whole wardrobe thing. So badly I want to bust out the boots and scarves, but 70 and 80 degree weather makes it seem silly.

Despite the outfit issues, I've gone ahead and decked the house out in October- appropriate attire and lit the "mulled cider" and "rustic retreat" candles. No I have not been baking today, but I could fool anyone who walked into our home right now 😉

Pumpkins

It’s fall y’all, and you know what that means. All things pumpkin. Pumpkin bread, soup, ice cream, doughnuts, muffins, and the like. Are you drooling yet?

I think it’s only necessary to start the season off with a bang and hit the local pumpkin farm. Around here it’s Young’s Jersey Dairy that tends to be packed from the first sign of changing leaves through Christmas. Young’s has it all – a pumpkin patch, corn maze, Christmas tree farm, delish country style restaurants, petting zoo, homemade cheeses and ice cream… the list goes on.

We joined our friends Jamie, Dan and sweet baby Kennedy for a farm-filled afternoon. It’s worth fighting a bit of a crowd to jump on the wagon and take a ride out to their pumpkin patch. We grabbed a wagon and some sheers, and headed as far out as we could in the search for the perfect pumpkin. We took the obligatory baby-in-front-of-pumpkin picture, and headed back to the restaurant for some homemade cheese curds.

After a fun-filled afternoon, we packed up the little ones, and headed out (but not before grabbing some apple cider, pumpkin doughnut holes and a quart of homemade chocolate-peanut butter ice cream to go, of course).
Grateful for good friends, crisp air, crunchy leaves, and pumpkins.

(and we capped off our evening with caramel vodka and apple cider. Oh Em Ge.)

XOXO
