A Gender Neutral Nursery

Tyler and Jackson are out of town for three days, on a quick trip for his sister's wedding. This means I have some time to myself, and a modest to-do list to tackle before baby #2 makes his/her way. One such task was to finally take and post pictures of the nursery.

I am not thrilled with most gender neutral things. Yellow and green are not my jam, but thankfully I've been on a gray and white kick throughout the house, so applying these colors to the baby room seemed natural. My vision was light, bright, and simple with some rustic accents.

I found the stellar cow print at TJ Maxx way back in April, and let it become the foundation for the rest of the room. Teal quickly became the obvious choice for an accent color, and I plan to add splashes of navy if baby thing is a boy, and coral if a sweet girl pops out.

Without further delay - here is the nursery reveal, right on time, just one week before D Day.

Backyard Camping

Here's the deal. I'm entirely too pregnant to do any camping of any kind. It's going to take a lot of convincing to get me to sleep in a tent when I'm not packing 20 extra pounds in my belly - so there was no chance I was crawling into a sleeping bag under the stars this summer.

But Tyler loves to camp, and Jackson is the perfect age to introduce him to the "magic" that is the great outdoors. Plus, we live in the middle of nowhere - so they could enjoy all the perks of camping with the convenience of our house just feet away.

And Jackson did awesome. I think he may be ready to graduate to camping outside the yard next year. Stay tuned...

#bothloveshock

My OFB (original best friend) got MARRIED! And even though I was 8 months pregnant, I was able to be there! We spent a whirlwind of a week in Colorado, spending the majority of that time celebrating Dan and Melissa - and we couldn't be more thrilled for the two of them, or happier to have been part of their big day.

Their love is the kind anyone would want for their best friend. They are so incredibly perfect for one another, and it shows. Dan and Melissa, we can't wait to see what the coming years bring for the both of you, and are so honored to be part of your journey!

Here are a few amateur pictures from our week - but check out the wedding photographer's blog for some incredible pictures that really captured the love, spirit, and style of the big day.

The Anxiety of the Wait

In this house, we are waiting. Waiting for cooler weather, waiting for sweet baby number 2, and waiting to find out where our lives will take us next.

We are caught in a limbo of sorts. Not only is our world about to shift in a major way with the addition of a tiny new family member, but we are also caught in the throes of military life at its best – uprooting and shaking up everything we’ve come to know in the last 2.5 years.

For a number of reasons that I won’t bore you with, we were fairly confident that our time in New York would be a full four-year assignment. Recently though, we found out that we are on the books to move this coming spring. THIS COMING SPRING.

But there’s more. Not only are we on the normal list to cycle to a new location in 6-9 months, but Tyler is also competing for a spot in a prestigious leadership program, which would also move us next summer. That means we are undergoing two different assignment processes at the same time. And only one will win.

So, very long (and complicated) story short, we will find out sometime before the end of the year where we are going, and when. And then, we will face all the challenges associated with a move, with the addition of an infant and a house to sell.

So now we wait. Tired of the excruciating heat and humidity, excited for the arrival of a sweet baby, and anxious for the news of an upcoming move, we hang on tight and take each day as it comes our way. These are the moments that my control-freak A-type personality is tested and stretched, and the part of me that seeks adventure and change thrives.

Stay tuned, as we wait and pray for the next chapter to take shape.
